| Description: | The Coder is primarily responsible for assigning ICD-9-CM and/or CPT codes to inpatient and outpatient charts and abstracting codes into the Affinity system. |
| Duties: | Coding Accuracy and Proficiency
Assigns accurate ICD-9-CM and/or CPT codes to inpatient and outpatient charts.
Demonstrates proficient use of the computer system and 3M encoder.
Abstracts codes correctly into the Affinity computer system.
Initiates a physician query according to guidelines.
Coding Efficiency Related to Billing/Reimbursement Process
Works within specified timeframe set forth by Finance Division to ensure timely billing and reimbursement.
Actively monitors and works unbilled reports.
Conducts all coding activities in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Maintains an effective rapport with Business Office staff to assist in billing/coding issues.

| Qualifications: | Working knowledge of medical terminology required.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience in the medical records or related healthcare field preferred.
Medical Terminology course required.
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required. |
