| Description: | The Radiation Therapist is responsible for providing accurate radiation treatment to patients as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.

| Duties: | Patient Care
Provide accurate radiation treatment to patients as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
Develop a positive, caring, trusting and professional relationship with patients.
Observe the patient’s progress throughout the course of radiation treatment.
Review and check diagnoses, simulation notes, dosimetric treatment plans, quality assurance and prescriptions, as well as any other pertinent information to deliver accurate treatment.
Clinic Care
Develop and maintain professional and positive relationship with the Radiation Oncology team and all other members of the cancer center.
Abide by all radiation safety practices and procedures.
Accurately prepare and set up equipment to ensure immobilization, protection and precise treatment.
Accurate information to be included in all patient charts. |
| Qualifications: | Must demonstrate leadership abilities and effective conflict resolution skills.
Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, expected beneficial effects, potential side effects and skill in safe administration practices.
Must be able to identify and provide for age specific patient needs.
Skill in operating job related medical equipment.
Must maintain effective, professional interpersonal working relationships.
Must hold current ARRT licensure.
CPR certification required.
Requires previous experience as a Radiographer (minimum of one year post graduate experience preferred).
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Knowledge of human anatomy (topical and cross-sectional), physiology, and pathology.
Knowledge of radiation physics, radiobiology, and radiation protection.
Knowledge of radiologic contrast media and medications routinely used in radiology.
Knowledge of radiographic image production and processing.
Skill in applying the principles of radiation protection and safety.
Skill in performing vernipuncture.
Skill in communicating with patients of all ages to explain procedures and obtain patient cooperation in completing procedures.
Ability to accurately apply knowledge of radiologic positioning and exposure technique.
Ability to understand and adhere to exam protocols and guidelines.
Experience to recognize when altering exam protocols is necessary to achieve desired imaging results.
Ability to respond appropriately in highly stressful emergency situations when a patient’s life is in jeopardy.
Minimum Position Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited college of school of Radiologic Technology or equivalent is required.
Certification and current registration in CT by the ARRT is desired. Current Indiana State Department of Health Diagnostic X-Ray Machine Operator Certificate required. Current CPR certification required.
