| Description: | The Central Sterile Supply Technician provides support to hospital departments in the reprocessing of equipment and supplies. The technician cleans, sterilizes, and assembles equipment in accordance with established policy and procedures. |
| Duties: | Maintains current inventory of instruments, supplies and equipment.
Responsible for purchasing and/or noting replacement of supplies, instruments and CS inventory.
Assists the supervisor with the evaluation of new products.
Assists with cost studies as needed.
Is able to function in all area of sterile reprocessing, as assigned.
Maintains the care of instruments per policy and procedure.
Maintains safety standards in the handling of sharps, i.e. blades, needles, sharp instruments.
Maintains asepsis through proper sterilization processes.
Maintains and applies principles of asepsis
Assumes responsibility for maintaining equipment and supplies in a cost-effective manner.
Working knowledge of the sterilization processes and documents sterilization results, items sterilized, and biological testing results.
Takes an active part in the inservice of the department and identifies needs.
Knowledgeable in infection control and sterility maintenance.
Assists with cleaning, stocking, and maintaining supplies and equipment.
Proactively and concurrently participates in monitoring, identifying and reporting of safety related issues. This includes, but is not limited to, patient safety, family/visitor safety, and employee safety.
Participates in the orientation of new employees and students.
Performs other duties as requested, according to experience and level of skills.
Assumes leadership responsibilities.
Completes applicable competencies and mandatory requirements.

Demonstrates effective working relationships by using tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a positive attitude when relating to co-workers, patients, family, all hospital staff, and physicians.
Satisfactory completion of an accredited Central Service (CS) or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) course. The CST is exempt from taking the CS course.
Must enroll and successfully complete a Central Service course exam within one year of employment.
Must hold and maintain certification.
Previous hospital experience preferred. |
